iGaming SEO is search engine optimisation for online casino, sportsbook, poker, bingo and lottery brands. It is a discipline of its own for three reasons: the product is regulated differently in every market, the search results for its money terms are dominated by affiliates rather than by the brands themselves, and most paid channels are restricted or banned — so organic search carries more of the acquisition load than in almost any other industry. This guide covers what that means in practice, how players actually search, and how to measure the channel in the numbers a board cares about.
Why iGaming search is different
Regulation writes the brief
In Italy all gambling advertising has been banned since 2019. ADM-2025 In the Netherlands untargeted advertising has been banned since July 2023 and gambling tax rose to 37.8% in January 2026. KSA-2026 In the UK Remote Gaming Duty rose from 21% to 40% in April 2026. HMT-2025 Sweden allows one bonus per customer, at first play. SI-2026 Germany caps slot stakes at €1 and monthly deposits at €1,000. GGL-2026 None of these rules change what players search for. All of them change what a page is allowed to say, and how much a paid click can cost before it stops making sense.
Affiliates own the commercial results
In most regulated markets the pages ranking for "best online casino", "casino bonus" or "betting sites" belong to comparison and review sites that have held those positions since licensing began. Operators that want organic visibility have three routes: build owned pages good enough to displace incumbents, work with the affiliates who already rank, or both. Affiliates, in turn, face the same regulators and the same algorithm updates, with thinner margins for error.
The brand is contested
"Brand + bonus", "brand + login", "brand + app" are the highest-intent queries an operator has. In many markets third parties outrank the operator for them, which means a share of every media impression the operator buys converts through someone else's page. Defending the brand SERP is therefore the first job in iGaming SEO, not an afterthought.
Paid channels are gated
Google requires gambling advertisers to be certified country by country and does not accept them at all in many markets; social platforms apply similar gates. Organic search has no certification queue. That does not make it easier — it makes it the channel you own when the others close.
How players search
Player search behaviour follows a small number of patterns that hold across markets, with local vocabulary layered on top.
- 01
Brand and brand + modifier. Login, app, bonus, promo code, review, withdrawal. Highest intent, highest conversion, most contested.
- 02
Game and provider titles. Players search for the slot or the studio by name. Slots are 83.5% of UK online casino yield GC-2025 and 69% of Spain's casino revenue DGOJ-2026; game-title pages are where casino demand concentrates.
- 03
Category and comparison. "Live casino", "best betting sites", "casino utan konto" in Sweden, "online spielothek" in Germany, "cassino online" in Brazil. Affiliate-dominated, language-specific, high volume.
- 04
Payment method. "Casino with Swish", "PayPal casino", "Pix apostas". Under-served in most markets and strongly tied to conversion.
- 05
Sports calendar. Fixtures, competitions and markets, with demand that spikes on a published schedule and disappears afterwards.
A page architecture that maps to these five patterns — in the local language, researched in the local Google — is the skeleton of every iGaming SEO plan.
What a plan contains
Technical foundation
Casino lobbies rendered in JavaScript, tens of thousands of game or fixture URLs, geo-redirects and multi-market hreflang are the recurring failure points. If Google cannot render the lobby or wastes its crawl budget on expired fixtures, nothing else in the plan works.
Brand-SERP defence
An audit of every brand + modifier query in every market; owned pages for each; structured data so the owned results take up more of page one; weekly monitoring for new entrants.
Commercial architecture
Category, game, provider and payment pages with one ranking target each and no cannibalisation, built in the vocabulary of the market.
Compliant content
Bonus and promotional copy written to the rule of the market — one permitted offer in Sweden, no urgency language under the UK CAP Code, informational tone only in Italy, no public inducement advertising in Ontario. Copy that ignores the rule gets the page removed and, in some markets, draws regulatory action.
Links
Editorial placements on domains with real traffic in the target country, chosen for topical fit and a clean outbound profile. The gambling link market is full of rented networks and expired domains; neither survives a manual review or a core update.
Measurement
Rankings are the input. The outputs are non-brand and brand organic sessions, registrations and first-time deposits by landing page, and organic cost per acquisition against paid in the same market, reported on a fixed cadence.
Operators and affiliates: the same SERP, different jobs
Operators optimise for registrations and deposits on their own domain and must obey the operator's advertising rules. Affiliates optimise for clicks that convert on someone else's domain, live or die by E-E-A-T signals — named authors, editorial standards, transparent methodology — and must obey the affiliate rules of each market, which in Italy, for example, restrict them to informational presentation of ADM-licensed brands. An agency can serve both, but never for the same keyword set in the same market at the same time.
How long it takes
Brand-SERP and technical work typically shows within four to eight weeks. Non-brand casino and betting terms in mature markets — the UK, Sweden, Germany — usually need three to six months before movement is visible, then compound. Opening markets are different: pages built during the transition inherit demand at the lowest competition the market will ever have, which is why Finland's July 2027 opening FI-2026 and Ireland's 2026 licensing GRAI-2026 reward the operators who start twelve months early.
How to choose an iGaming SEO agency
Ask five questions. Which markets have you worked in, and what did the regulator allow there? Show me a case with its baseline, period and source. Which links will you build, and will I see each URL before it goes live? Do you work for anyone competing with me on the same terms? What exactly is in the monthly report, and how is it reconciled to my analytics? An agency that answers all five in writing is doing iGaming SEO. One that answers with rankings alone is doing something else.
Frequently asked questions
The techniques overlap; the constraints do not. Regulation decides what a page may say, affiliates decide how hard the SERP is, and closed paid channels decide how much of acquisition the organic channel has to carry.
In markets where advertising is banned — Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium — it already has, alongside affiliates. Elsewhere it lowers blended cost per acquisition because organic pages keep converting after the spend stops.
In registrations, first-time deposits and organic cost per acquisition against paid, by landing page and by market. Rankings and traffic are leading indicators, not the result.
The brand SERP. Owning positions one to three for brand + bonus, login and app typically moves within weeks and protects the traffic every other channel generates. Every market figure in this guide is dated and linked to its source on the relevant market page and on the Sources page. Sources
